Old Town Alexandria during the holidays is the quintessential storybook Christmas town and with the greatest concentration of independent shops in the DC region, you’re sure to find gifts for everyone on your shopping list. Forego the mayhem of Black Friday shopping for Small Business Saturday festivities at the vast array of stores in the Carlyle District. Also, check-in at the Kid’s Corner for seasonal activities and visits with Santa.
Take a break from your normal weekend evening routine with a visit to the Meadowlark Botanical Gardens’ Winter Walk of Lights. Beginning this weekend through January 8, 2017, Meadowlark Botanical Gardens will be hosting a half-mile long wonderland walk through the garden with animated lights and music. Following the walk, hot cocoa and coffee are served. Ticket prices range from $7-13 and can be purchased on Ticketfly.
If you’re looking to make a day of festivities, venture north to Baltimore for the Fell’s Point Old Tyme Christmas or the Christmas Market. The Old Tyme Christmas Festival will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 in the historic Fell’s Point neighborhood. Highlights of the event will include St. Nick’s arrival via tugboat, caroling, lighting of the tree, a North Pole picture room, and a lighted boat parade. The event is sure to be a jolly good time for adults and kids, alike. The Christmas Market will be held in the Inner Harbor from November 24 – December 24, 2016. It is a sprawling, German-style bazaar with stalls of vendors selling delectable treats and wares for everyone on your shopping list. Also be sure to visit the Pandora ice skating rink adjacent to the market for more cold weather fun!
